Mercerized cotton is refined using a special technology called mercerization, which increases shine by treating the fibers with sodium hydroxide while simultaneously stretching them. Cotton treated in this way is not only shinier, but also softer, stronger, colorfast, has brighter colors, and is more resistant to abrasion and shrinkage.
